About the Watch/Organization

Q:  How long has this watch/organization been around?  A:  It was organized by your neighbor; Dorothy Soliz in May 2007 as a watch and upgraded to an organization in 2011.

Q:  When and where are the neighborhood meetings held?  A:  Meetings are held upon request and are held at the Gier Community Center, 2400 Hall Street.  Please call the Gier Community Center at (517) 483-4313 to confirm there is a meeting.  

Q:  How many members do you have?  A:  Approximately 28 members as of July 2011.

Q:  Is there a membership fee to join?  A:  No.

Q:  How are neighbors notified of any meetings or events?  A:  By email if you are on the distribution list, word of mouth, website, and large poster sign that is placed on the corner of Old US27 and Thomas Street. 

Q:  What are the topics of discussion during the meetings?  A:  Topics can range from suspicious criminal activities to tall grass complaints to noisy mopeds.

Q:  Who attends these meetings?  A:  A city official and/or police officer will attend if requested and when possible.

 

 

Crimes or Concerns in the Neighborhood 

Q:  How can I find out about the crimes in our neighborhood?  A:  You can sign up at www.citizenobserver.com to be alerted by email of any criminal activities in the city.  There are other alerts that you might want to sign up for.  See the "Safety and Crime Prevention" page.

Q:  What should I do if a problem persist even after it has been reported to the police?  A:  Notify your neighborhood coordinator so that she/he can contact the specific city official that can assist you.

 Special Events & Volunteering

Q:  Do you plan any special events or parties annually?  A:  Yes, we participate in National Night Out each year at the Gier Community Center which is held in August.  We combine this event with our end of the year neighborhood party and have plenty of free fun and food.

Q:  What is National Night Out?  A:  This is a national event that is celebrated nationwide to show support against crime.  Neighborhoods throughout the city join city officials, police, and the fire department for a night of fun.

Q:  Who pays for the National Night Out event?  A:  The event is funded by grants from the Lansing Neighborhood Council which you have to apply for each year.

Q:  Who created the logo?  A:  Many thanks to Jennifer Fuentes from the Lansing Neighborhood Council who helped set up this website and created our neighborhood logo.
